The sub-committee further informed that they hadengaged William Kirk (at 35$ per Mo) and his brotherMahlon Kirk (at 25$ per Mo) to go out and resideamongst the Indians on the Wabash the presentsummer they forwarded by them a letter to WilliamWells, and an address to the Indians of which thefollowing are copies Baltimore 3 Mo 12 1806William WellsEsteemed Friends Thy several communicationsupon Indian concerns, we have received. Theinformation given us has been acceptable, and wedesire to make our acknowledgements therefor This will be handed to thee by William Kirkwho is one of our committee and is accompanyedby his younger Brother Mahlon Kirk, the object oftheir journey is to spend the ensueing summer inaid of the Red people. By them we have also directeda communication to the Little Turtle &; other chiefswhich will be put into thy hands. We have left ablank for the addition of the names of otherchiefs, which we wish thee to fill up at thy discretionnot doubting but that there are several in theneighbourhood of Dennis’ station, who have removedto reside thereabouts, in latter time, to whom arespect is due from us
