to interdict the future transportation of thatarticle into their country, which petitionthey forwarded to us and at the same timesolicited the aid of Friends in promoting suchmeasures as might hereafter relieve them fromthe dreadful consequences of this great distroyeramongst them The committee taking into considerationthe destructive effects which during their intercourse with the Indiansthey had observed to flow from their excessive useof spiritious liquors, and which had greatlyparalised every exertion for their improvementwere unanimously of the opinion that itbecame their duty to pay such attention tothe application received as might hereafter tendto relieve these unhappy people from thecalamities and distresses which they were sufferingfrom distilled spiritous liquors.
