At a meeting of the committee on Indian concerns1 mo 1812 present members The following letter was rcd. from A committeeof the Meeting for Sufferings at Philad.Philad. 12 mo 24 1811Beloved Friends The Meeting for sufferings in Londonhaving lately sent an Epistle to our meeting they thereinrequest that we will transmit to them such information of the progress and effect of civilization amongstthe Indian natives as may come under our cognizanceor may arise out of the reports of the several committees engaged in that work: And they further saythat it will be additionally acceptable if the information include the proceedings of Friends in New Yorkand Maryland- As they have several times made arequest nearly similar to this, our meeting for sufferingsensible that Friends in England interested in the successof a cause so congenial with the spirit of christianityhave as brethren a reasonable expectation that we wouldfreely open to them the state of this business from time totime, as far as may be material for their knowledge andsatisfaction, have appointed a committee to give attentionto the subject as a part of which we were desired towrite to some friend in Baltimore informing of thesituation in which we are placed, and if Friendsof the Indian committee in Baltimore saw nomaterial objection, it would be acceptable to receive
