Aupaumut, principle Chief of the Stockbridge Nation, and to whom we had sent a Runner the Evening before, came, with two others of his Tribe, to meet us, and conduct us to his Town; with whom we went, and ariving at his Habitation, we were a little surprised with the smalness and meanness of it; but having no prospect of bettering ourselves, we very deliberately lit, and after some time ventured in, but our surprise was soon turned into astonishment, when we saw the Table spread for our Break-fast; the Tea Tackling was brought out; good wheat Bread,
