The Brothertown's are a mixed people from various parts of the eastern Governments, set-tled here on a Tract of Land giv-en to them by the Oneida’s, and forming themselves into a kind of national Compact under the Appellation of Brothers, and calling their Settlement by the Name of Brothertown, they are considered as a distinct Tribe under that Name. They consist of about 56 Fa-milies, have 9900 Acres of Land now, but their Original Gift from the Oneida’s was much more, which has been reduced, much through their own mismanagement, by
