Bio notes | The Jesuits are a Catholic religious order officially recognized by the Pope in 1540. Beginning in 1625 the Jesuits were active in the French colonies of North America, working among the Huron and Iroquois to varying success. England’s (officially Anglican Church) control of French territory steadily curtailed Jesuit activity in Canada until in 1773 when it stopped altogether. |
