Bio notes A people who spoke the Miami-Illinois variant of the Algonquian-language, the Peoria were historically located in Illinois before a 1763 migration southwest into Missouri. In 1818 they signed the Treaty of Edwardsville, thus ceding their Illinois lands, while in 1832 the Treaty of Lewisville exchanged their Missouri lands for Kansas territory near the Osage River.
