Bio notes | Lived near Athens in 1825; had sisters Tabitha, Lucia, and Margaret. Born in England, son of Henry and Margaret Marriott. c. 1800, the family moved to Hudson, NY. Abolitionist, wanted the Society to take a firmer stand against slavery. Married Sarah White Corlies (widow of Jacob Corlies) in 1836. 1840, was clerk of "New York Association of Friends for the Relief of those held in Slavery. Was disowned in 1842 for "attempting to spread disunity" although he claimed innocence, and continued to attend first and fifth-day meetings. |
