Prominant Quaker minister who settled in New Jersey. Born in France and arrived in New York in 1795 not knowing English. Removed to Philadelphia and was received as a member of the Society of Friends in 1796. In 1798 he was recorded a minister. In 1799 removed to New York. In 1804 Grellet married Rebecca Collins, the daughter of the publisher Isaac Collins. Travelled widely in ministry, to Canada, New Orleans, Illinois, Europe, and Haiti, although later in life his health lessened his travel. Moved to Burlington, NJ after 1823, where he died. |
