During Revolutionary War, visited both Howe and Washington on behalf of Friends (1777). Abolitionist; manumitted his slaves (1774-75). Author, A Serious Expostulation... (1793) and A Defence of Warner Mifflin (1796). Contracted yellow fever, Phila.; died near Camden, Delaware. Member of Indian Committee of PYM.
