We of the Committee appointed in the 5 Mon last tovisit some of the Indians tribes NW of the river ohiohave so far attended to the trust reposed in us as tomeet at Beesan Town at which place we were infor-med that Gov. St. Clair was at Pittsburg but onfurther inspection found that he had proceeded downthe river to Cincinnata. We then proceded to theMouth of Wheeling where we were informed by EbenezarZane that a number of Chiefs and Hunters had latelybeen about the Muskingum river &; thought it likelywe could accomplish our business to satisfaction withthem. We accordingly proceded to those parts but theywere gone, particularly the chiefs, some to one placeand some to another so that it appeared impracticablefor us to have them collected in a suitable manner fora conference. We are however of the mind that ifnotice of the intention of Friends was communicatedto them, and they desired to fix on time and place, ofwhich Friends might have notice, would be the mostlikely way to obtain a satisfactory conferrence withthemSubmitted to the Comt.9 Mo 19. 1796 Jonathan Wright John Brown Israel Janney Moses Dillon
