which had been received in reply enclosing a communication signed by 8 Indians of the WaupaukannettaVillage, stating the distressed condition to which theyhad been reduced by the late war and requestingassistance from friends towards reestablishing themselves at their Village The committee taking into considerationthe present situation of these people as describesby their chiefs and John Johnson and feelingmuch sympathy for them, were, after solid deliberation united in judgment that previous toany further measures it will be best to appointa committee to wait on the Government andexplain our views, and ascertain if they haveany objection to our renewing our exertions towardspromoting their civilization, George Ellicott, Gerard THopkins &; Philip E.
