Date founded 1792
Org type review
Bio notes An unincorporated syndicate of thirteen Amsterdam investors who purchased a significant portion of western New York and Pennsylvania between 1792 and 1793. Since foreigners were unable to own land in the United States until 1798, these investors initially placed funds in the hands of citizen trustees like Robert Morris to perform the official purchases. They furthermore had to negotiate with the Native Americans who originally inhabited the land, participating in the Treaty of Big Tree (1797) on the Genesee River. The company sold the last of this land in 1840, and subsequently dissolved around 1846.
