Bio notes The Yearly Meeting began taking interest in the Indians in 1795, and asked the Meeting for Sufferings to collect data. Sufferings in turn formed a special committee which reported philanthropy among Narragansett Indians in 1801. Wrote a letter to the federal government urging the needs and rights of Indians in 1818. In 1820, at the request of the Maine Governor, the meeting instructed Penobscots in agriculture and temperance.
