Bio notes Also known as Massasago, Mississauga, Mississaga. An Algonquian-speaking people located along the Mississagi and Credit Rivers as well as the Kawatha Lakes of what is now Ontario. England began purchasing land from them in 1781 and continued to do so until 1825, when the government built the Mississauga a village near the Credit River homeland. In 1847, the Mississauga left this village to found a new one in Hagersville, Ontario.
